With the help of my friend and colleague Sarah Tengblad, we have taken some steps to push the Voices of Hope forward towards a more structured future that we hope will allow this work to continue for a long time. The Voices of Hope is now an LLC (Limited Liability Corporation) and has partnered with Springboard for the Arts as our fiscal sponsor. This partnership allows us to start raising money for the Voices of Hope as we look ahead to the possibility of starting a non-profit organization. Any funds you are able to donate to this cause will be not only helpful to our organization, but life-giving for the women at Shakopee. Thank you for your support as we grow!
Concert: UMN Campus Orchestras
Next Wednesday evening, I will be joining my orchestral conducting colleagues in conducting the University of Minnesota Campus Orchestras. In fulfillment of my secondary area requirement (orchestral conducting), I have had the pleasure of working with Campus Orchestra Gold for the past few months. This orchestra is comprised mostly of undergraduate students and is a non-auditioned orchestra with a variety of skill levels. Together, we have learned Gabriel Fauré’s “Pelléas et Mélisande,” a lush, 20-minute orchestral suite. It has been a blast working with these students, and I am proud of the music we will be sharing. Here are the details:

CMS Conference Panelist
I am thrilled to be selected to serve on a panel with some of my greatest inspirations in the prison choir world – Mary Cohen, Andre de Quadros, and Cathy Roma. The four of us will be presenting at the College Music Society’s National Conference in San Antonio, TX this October. Our panel is titled, “Music-Making in U.S. Prisons: Reflecting on the Past, Innovations for the Future.” It is such an honor to talk about the Voices of Hope alongside so many other wonderful projects. I’m looking forward to all I will learn!
